Dame Eileen Atkins for ITV’s Daphne du Maurier adaption ‘Scapegoat’.

Dame Eileen Atkins has signed on for one-off ITV play The Scapegoat.

The 77-year-old actress will star alongside Matthew Rhys in the adjustment of Daphne du Maurier’s novel.

Atkins went forth her part as Lady Holland on Upstairs Downstairs on DVD in Aug after one serial, theoretically due to issues with the BBC play’s playscript.

Meanwhile, Rhys is best known for acting Kevin Walker in the US serial Brothers and Sisters.

ITV’s head of play Laura Mackie said: "We’re enthralled to be conveying The Scapegoat to ITV1. It’s a marvellous, suspensive playscript having parts with dark needs and dark mysteries.

"We’ve wished to conform a Daphne du Maurier novel for some time and we ‘re vibrated we now have this chance with The Scapegoat."

Targeted and adjusted by Charles Sturridge, the movie can be produced by Sarah Beardsall and Island Pictures.

With taking starting in Nov, The Scapegoat will also be brought out cinematically following its TV SET broadcast.
