Overview of The Vampire Diaries Season 1 DVD Boxset

The Vampire Diaries series is an American supernatural–fantasy horror television series developed by Kevin Williamson that airs on the CW Television Network.

The Vampire Diaries is based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith. The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), and soon finds herself caught in a love triangle between Stefan and his older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), while the brothers are also being haunted by the past they've had with Katherine Pierce (also played by Nina Dobrev). The series also focuses on the lives of Elena's friends and other inhabitants of the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

One full season has aired since, comprising 22 episodes. The first season began airing on September 10, 2009, and ended on May 13, 2010.

Plot Summary of The Vampire Diaries Season 1

The first part of the season mainly focused on the introduction of the vampires, specifically the lives of the two vampire brothers Stefan and Damon who after long period of absence return to their birth town, the first to conquer the heart of Elena, and the second to revive his long-lost love Katherine, Elena's doppelganger trapped in a tomb. It also dealt with Vicki's transformation into a vampire and her death. We then later meet Anna a vampire who had come to town around the "Night of the Comet", who is planning to open the tomb to save her mother, but accidentally frees the other "tomb vampires" as well. The second part of the season introduces the newly released "tomb vampires" among which isn't Katherine. They end up meeting up with Pearl and Anna, who are housing all the tomb vampires to "take back" their town. We also meet John Gilbert, Elena's father who is planning on using the Gilbert device to destroy all the "tomb vampires". The season concludes with the celebration of the town's founder's day which ends the battle of the "tomb vampires" and greets the final return of Katherine.
